IINS - Interdisciplinary Institute for Neuroscience

This meeting, which occurs every 2 years, aims at promoting scientific exchanges between French laboratories working in the fields of cell adhesion in various biological contexts. The meeting is also open to foreign scientists having strong research connections with the French community in cell adhesion. This is the 4th edition of this meeting and the first time it takes place in Bordeaux. Given the strong neuroscience environment of Bordeaux, we gave a special emphasis on neuronal adhesion by inviting renowned scientists for a dedicated session on this topic.

Cell adhesion is an integrated process involved in fundamental biological phenomena such as embryogenesis, immunological response, wound healing, and neuronal wiring. The establishment and turnover of cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrices contacts involves many adhesive systems. Despite their diversity, adhesive modules share the property of forming dynamic connections with the intracellular cytoskeleton and signaling pathways, allowing a control of cell shape, motility, proliferation and differentiation. Disregulation of cell adhesion contributes to several pathologies including tumor formation and metastasis, but also cognitive disorders linked to abnormal dendritic spine morphology and defective axon guidance.

This meeting will cover the following topics:
-    Structure and molecular organization of adhesion sites
-    Adhesion strength and mechanosensing
-    Integrin and cadherin cross-talk
-    Adhesion dynamics and cell mobility
-    Neuronal adhesion, from migration to synaptic plasticity
-    Adhesion and tissue organization
